Jon Wood is the executive director of innovation and collaboration at Bridgestone Americas, Inc, acting as the senior representative for innovations – both internal and external. He is responsible for facilitating internal technical innovation and external innovation, including M&A, investing, partnering, joint development arrangements and other innovation activities. He is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with universities, industry researchers, think tanks and inventors and entrepreneurs, both inside and outside the industry, to identify new products and market opportunities.
For over 10 years, Mr Wood served as chief IP counsel at Bridgestone Americas, Inc, where he was responsible for all aspects of intellectual property. Before joining Bridgestone, he served as senior counsel of intellectual property for Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, Tennessee; an associate at law firm Workman, Nydegger in Salt Lake City, Utah; and an associate at Michael A Mann, PA in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mr Wood obtained his JD from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, his master’s in organic chemistry from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and his BS in chemistry from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
Mr Wood is active in the IP field, serving as vice chair of the board for the National Inventors Hall of Fame – the parent of Camp Invention (which serves over 100,000 children in all 50 states), board member of the Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation and adjunct professor at Case-Western School of Law and advisory committee member for its law technology and arts programme.
Mr Wood is a frequent speaker on the topics of innovation and intellectual property, having spoken at conferences in Europe, North America, China and Japan.
